Main Responsibilities and Functions of the Authority:


To ensure the right to safe food through the proper practice of scientific methods, to control, inspect and coordinate the activities of all organizations related to food production, import, processing, storage, supply and sale related activities.

General Responsibilities:


a) Provide necessary cooperation to relevant authorities or organizations in the scientific definition of food obtained from vegetable, animal and other main sources and their quality standards from the point of view of safety and monitor the implementation of their functions; b) Quality standards of food prescribed by any other authority or organization under existing laws (standard) or guideline (guideline) to provide the necessary cooperation to the relevant authority or organization in updating or improving the maximum means of safety;c) If no food quality standards or guidelines have been determined under any existing law, determination of quality standards or guidelines for the related food; d) Microbial contaminants, fertilizers, pesticides in food products prescribed by any other authority or organization under existing laws. or pesticide residue, veterinary or fishery drug residue, heavy metal, processing aid, food additive or preservative,Mycotoxins, antibiotics, medicinal active substances and growth promoters, tolerable levels of safe use of maximum means to provide necessary cooperation to relevant authorities or organizations in updating or improving and monitoring implementation; e) Contaminant or contaminating bacteria, fertilizers, pesticides in food under any existing law. or pesticide residues, veterinary or fishery drug residues, heavy-metals, processing aids, food additives or preservatives, mycotoxins,If the tolerable levels of use of antibiotics, medicinal active substances and growth promoters have not been established, their tolerable levels shall be determined scientifically.f) Provide necessary cooperation to concerned authorities or organizations in specifying tolerable levels of radioactivity in food and monitor implementation;g) For the certification of safe food management systems in the food business, providing necessary support to the relevant authority or organization in formulating and implementing the accreditation policies to be followed by the certification bodies;h) Providing necessary cooperation to the relevant authorities or organizations in formulating policies to be followed for the accreditation of food laboratories and monitoring their implementation; j) Providing necessary advice to the relevant authorities for taking necessary measures immediately regarding the inspection of laboratories conducted for food adulteration and quality assessment and the deviations observed during the inspection;J) If the standards and testing methods of imported food products are not determined under any existing law, the standards and testing methods of the said food products are determined and accordingly, providing necessary cooperation to the relevant authorities or organizations to ensure the quality of the said food products and monitoring the implementation;k) Determining the method of publication of claims related to food packaging and health, nutrition, special nutritional quality and classification of packaged food and providing necessary assistance to the concerned authority or organization in implementing the same;l) Determining methods of assessment, analysis, notification and management of potential risks and establishing procedures for identification of increasing risks and regular warning systems; and d) collection and analysis of food samples and exchange of information thereon with law enforcement agencies;

The Authority, in carrying out the duties and functions assigned to it, shall take the following steps: 

a) Formulate policies or regulations on food and nutrition safety and provide necessary scientific advice and technical assistance to the Government in amending or updating the existing policies or regulations; b) Providing scientific advice related to the following matters: and technical information search, collection and comparative analysis,namely:- a) identification of health risks due to food consumption; b) identification of prevalence and prevalence of biological hazards; e) identification of prevalence and prevalence of contaminant mixtures in food; c) identification of prevalence and prevalence of residues of contaminants in food; c) assessment of potential risks, Innovating procedures and taking necessary initiatives to update or improve existing procedures in coordination with all concerned and monitor implementation;d) Send the message about food health and nutritional risks to the government and related authorities, organizations and officials and take necessary measures to inform the public; e) Provide necessary scientific and technical advice and support to the government to implement the safe food crisis management system;f) Exchange of information between the authorities or organizations involved in safe food management up to the field level, providing cooperation in the formulation and implementation of related projects and establishing scientific and technical cooperation networks through the exchange of existing experience and best practices in this regard; and providing technical advice and assistance;h) Taking measures for training on food safety issues for the persons directly or indirectly involved in the implementation of this law and engaged in the management of food products business; j) Providing necessary assistance to the relevant authorities or organizations in upgrading the existing standards of food products and sanitary and phyto-sanitary to international standards;J) Coordinating activities undertaken by government, private and international organizations regarding food quality; K) Establishing effective communication between the authorities or organizations engaged in food testing, research and standard setting procedures; L) Bringing equality between the quality of international food and domestic food. determining strategy;d) Creating public awareness about the quality of safe food; and d) To carry out such other functions as may be directed by the Government, from time to time, to carry out the purposes of this Act.
